Bio Dr. Narendran is the director of research at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute's Lighting Research Center. He is known throughout the lighting industry for his pioneering research, publications, and educational activities in the field of solid-state lighting. His leadership has helped to bridge the science of solid-state LED technology with mainstream lighting applications. His efforts led to the formation of the Alliance for Solid-State Illumination Systems and Technologies (ASSIST), an LED industry group designed to advance the effective use of energy-efficient solid-state lighting and speed its market acceptance. Dr. Narendran has authored or co-authored more than 75 articles in archival journals and proceedings and holds several patents, including one as co-inventor of SPE™ (scattered photon extraction) technology. He is a Fellow of the Illuminating Engineering Society of North America and a member of the International Society for Optical Engineering

Bio Dr. Rea is the director of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute's Lighting Research Center and an expert in human vision, lighting engineering, human factors, photobiology, psychology, light and health, nighttime vision, and visual performance. He is the author of more than 100 scientific and technical articles related to vision, lighting engineering, and human factors and was the editor-in-chief of the 8th and 9th editions of the Illuminating Engineering Society of North America Lighting Handbook. His current research projects include the study of the effects of light and circadian disruption on breast cancer, research on the effects of daylight on worker productivity in commercial offices, the development of new metrics to improve the acceptance of energy-efficient lighting technologies, and research on reducing the market barriers to widespread use of energy-efficient lighting controls.
