Tamara recently completed coursework for her Doctorate in Orchestral Conducting and was selected as one of three finalists for the Dallas Symphony Orchestra Assistant Conductor Audition. In the 19/20 season, Tamara served as assistant conductor to Bramwell Tovey, Principal Conductor of the BBC Concert Orchestra, at the London Proms. She was selected as one of 6 conductors to participate in a two-week residency in the Dallas Opera's prestigious Hart Institute for Women Conductors, which culminated in a final concert of overtures and arias with the Dallas Opera Orchestra and world-class singers. She has been a recipient of the Bruno Walter Conducting Fellowship at the Cabrillo Festival of Contemporary Music, which she has attended both in 2019 and 2021. Previously, Tamara won 2nd prize in the Boston Pops' 2018 Leonard Bernstein Conducting Competition. She served for 2 years as Assistant Conductor for the Austin Symphony Orchestra, and as an assistant conductor at the Butler Opera Center. Tamara enjoys working with a variety of collegiate, youth and school ensembles, including the Longy Conservatory Orchestra at Bard College (guest conductor), the Austin Youth Orchestra (Interim Conductor) and The University of Texas University Orchestra (co-music director). She has led the Indiana University Brass Choir, University of Texas Symphony Orchestra, Boston University Symphony Orchestra and Boston University All-Campus Orchestra in concerts, as well as worked extensively with the Emory Youth Symphony Orchestra and Boston Youth Symphony Orchestras. Additionally, Tamara was Director of Orchestras at Lakeside High School in Atlanta and conductor of the University of Texas String Project Chamber Orchestra. As a part of her DMA, she wrote a paper entitled 21st Century Leadership in the Conductor-Musician Relationship, which includes interviews with musicians and conductors throughout the country, including Marin Alsop, Bramwell Tovey, Lucia Lin, Paul Popiel and Bharat Chandra. Tamara hosts the series: Martinis with Maestros, in which she interviews multi-faceted artists: musicians, conductors, arts administrators, entrepreneurs, authors and more. Tamara served as a a guest panelist at Davidson College in their Seminar Series - Diversity, Representation, Democratization in Classical Music. She is looking forward to serving as a mentor for the Girls Who Conduct/Georgia Symphony Orchestra Fellowship Program in the 21/22 season!
